Windows Live Writer

28Feb08

Over at Freelance Writing Jobs, Deb listed Windows Live Writer as a tool she uses, and several of the other posters commented that they, too, liked Writer. So, when my laptop arrived, thinking that it might be useful if I wanted to write blog entries away from an Internet connection. I am using it right now to type this post in the comfort of my living room, and so far I have to say it’s pretty nice.

It’s pretty easy to set up and use, saving drafts to you local drive, the drafts area of your blog, or letting you publish from right here. It’s easy to flip between different blogs, with just the selection of the drop down menu.

So, if you want to give Windows Live Writer a shot, follow the link.

  1. Speaking of technical stuff – you’ve had your laptop for a little while now, how are you liking it?

  2. Well, the laptop itself is fine. Vista isn’t as bad as I thought. There are some built in functions I like, such as a standalone calendar program separate from Outlook.

I had to move my router up onto a shelf because something in the walls was messing with the signal between the router and the living room. Now that it’s up high, I only get disconnected when I put the laptop down to chase after Piper. đŸ˜€

The big thing is that I’ve not got to use it as much as I wanted to. It seems like the crazyness in our house just keeps multiplying. I’ve tried getting up on the weekends before everyone else for some coffee, DVR-ed Charmed reruns, and a little writing, but that seems to invariably get interrupted by a little toddler girl. It has potential, but I just need to get a good routine down. Since we’ve all been sick lately, I’ve gotten no private time in the evenings either. We’ll figure it out.

  3. This time of year seems to ruin everyone’s plans. It’s not Spring yet, we’re all tired of Winter and the cold. I never would have thought the router needed to be UP, but as it happens mine sits on top of a dresser in my bedroom, and we can get good reception even in the back yard on the deck.

I live in fear of Vista, but my mother is buying a laptop this Spring/Summer so I’ll be forced to get familiar with it in order to help her !

  4. I don’t know, maybe I haven’t used it as much as needed to say it sucks, but I’m not seeing so much on the user side that so terrible. The format and layout is different, but really, it’s functional, so that’s not bad.

I haven’t tried to hook it up to other devices really. I have my desktop, which is already connected to everything else, so I’ve just moved documents around with a flash drive, email, or Google Docs.

You can always order a Dell with XP like Carrie did!
